Wells & Associates, LLC, and Blue Mountain Preservation Association to Award Volunteers at Holiday Banquet in December

The Stroudsmoor Country Inn will be the scene on Dec. 9 for a Woodland Holiday Banquet recognizing invasive species monitoring volunteers for a year of service

STROUDSBURG, Pa., Sept. 20, 2018—In gratitude for our hardworking volunteers’ service to the local watersheds, Wells & Associates is holding a holiday banquet open to the public. Ticket proceeds will go to the Blue Mountain Preservation Association and the Delaware Riverkeeper.

On December 9, 2018, Stroudsmoor Country Inn in Stroudsburg, Pa., will host Wells & Associates and guests for dinner and dancing in the stunning Terraview villa, which overlooks the wildlife sanctuary and the beautiful Pocono Mountains. 

The banquet, the first of a new annual tradition, honors more than three dozen local volunteers who have spent many hours monitoring and, where possible, working to remove invasive species such as the Japanese barberry, which has escaped managed care and become a menace to many species, including birds and deer, whose food sources it chokes off. This plant in particular is strongly correlated with increases in black-legged ticks, which transmit Lyme disease. 

Doors to the Terraview will open at 5:30 PM for a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres. Dinner will be served at 7:00 PM and will include Roast Vermont Turkey, Sausage Stuffing, Smoked Pork Loin, Poached Salmon, or Boston Baked Cod, Roasted Red Bliss Potatoes, Baked Pasta, Long-grain and Wild Rice, and Prime Rib, as well as sweet and savory breads and desserts. The Awards Ceremony will begin at 8:00 PM. 

“The conditions these volunteers endure to monitor and remove invasive species of plants in the Delaware and Lehigh Watersheds can be quite harsh,” said Wells & Associates CEO Holly Wells, “and the only pay these folks receive is the knowledge that they’re doing everything they can to help preserve and restore native species and provide a better environment for our native plants and animals. The least we can do is celebrate their hard work with a nice meal.”

Lead environmental scientist Macy Satterwhite added, “This event helps bring positive community attention to the work of conservationists in the Poconos area. We hope that getting the word out will also help bring in more volunteers. Many hands make light work, and we have a lot of that work to go around.”

Tickets for this holiday event are $75 per person or $130 per couple and are limited to 200. Proceeds from this charity event will be donated in equal part to the Blue Mountain Preservation Association and the Delaware Riverkeeper.
